The humble magpie may have got something right. The bird’s well-known penchant for shiny things is not so surprising, given the proliferation of such things in our lives.

We as a species also seem to love glitter. We’re drawn to it, just like that annoying black and white bird. While some may like shiny jewellery, others a shimmering spoon, it’s likely that we can all agree that a glitter stick will brighten up even the most boring cocktail on the dullest day of the decade.
